Secondary Research

1. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2007/jul/31/newmedia.advertising
This is an artical taken from the Guardian about junk food advertising and the possibility of it being banned on childrens T.V. Its quite reliable as its relatively recent article written in 2007 by a women called Helen Pidd. She has been a reporter for the Guardian for 4 years and was previously a commissioning editor on G2. She had written the article after attending a Conference on Marketing on children so has some first hand information on this topic.

2.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/tv-and-net-face-crackdown-on-advertising-to-children-763944.html
This is also another article taken from another paper called the Independent. It talks about the government cracking down on television and internet advertising and their new " moves to protect youngsters from the "comercialisation" and sexualisation of childhood. Again it is reasonably reliable as its relatively recent article from 2007, written by a man called Brian Brady.

3.http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/parents/marketing/marketers_target_kids.cfm
This was found on a website called Media Awareness Network. It talks about how marketers target kids. It goes through many strategies companies use and depend on to sell their product. Seeing as it's a Media website we would hope that its reliability is reasonable good as they should know what they are talking about it. They have also written many other pages about advertising and is a very recent website.

Research Question

The question I have chosen to focus on is "What strategies do advertisers use to target under- 6 year old children. I will look specifically at television advertising". Advertising in the media (particularly television) has always been a strong interest in mine, especially in the ways it targets children and the effects it has on their growing up. As I have grown in to a young adult I have become increasingly aware of advertising especially to the younger generation. I also have younger siblings and realise how much television and the adverts inbetween the programs they watch influence what they want to eat to what new toy they wish to have.
During my first stages of research i will be using search engines such as google to find different advertising companies and see what regulations thay have on advertising for children if any at all and to what lengths they will go to to grab the attention of the innocent.
Also using articles found on the Guardian website will give me an insight into others ideas on advertising to children.
